Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about working with us — quoting, payment, supervision and what we will and will not take on. Questions about a specific service are answered on that service’s own page.

Getting a price

How do I get a quotation?

Call, email or send an enquiry through the site with the location, what you want to build or supply, and roughly when you want to start. For construction we then visit the site before quoting, because ground conditions, access and drainage all affect the price and none of them can be judged from a description.

Do you charge for a site visit or an estimate?

Contact us with the location and scope first. We will explain what information or site assessment is needed before a quotation, and whether any design or specialist work is chargeable before it begins.

How long does a quotation take?

For material supply, usually a day or two. For construction it depends on whether drawings exist — pricing from a bill of quantities against real drawings takes longer than a rough figure, but it is the only kind of quotation worth having.

Will the price change once work starts?

The agreed scope is priced and we hold to it. Prices change when the scope changes — you add a room, upgrade finishes, or the ground turns out to need a different foundation than the site inspection suggested. Any variation is agreed in writing with its cost before the work is done, never presented as a surprise afterwards.

Payment and contracts

How are payments structured?

Against completed stages, not against calendar dates. A typical schedule releases funds at foundation, ring beam, roof, and finishing milestones, with photographic evidence of the completed stage before each release. This protects you far more than a date-based schedule, which pays out whether or not the work happened.

What is in the written scope?

What is being built, to what specification — block sizes, cement and steel, tiling, sanitaryware, doors, paint system — the milestone programme, the payment schedule, and what is explicitly excluded. Exclusions matter as much as inclusions, and vague scopes are where disputes come from.

Do you offer any guarantee on your work?

Workmanship, defect and remedy terms depend on the written contract and the element concerned. Ask us to explain the applicable terms before work starts; the signed agreement is what governs them.

Can you work with my own architect or engineer?

Yes. We will review the drawings first and raise anything that will cause a problem on site — that review is in your interest, not a criticism of your designer.

How we work

Who supervises the work on site?

Every project gets direct oversight from our leadership, with checks at the stages that matter — foundations, reinforcement before pours, ring beam, roof and finishing. We deliberately run fewer projects than we could in order to keep that possible.

What updates will I get during the build?

Written and photographic progress reports at each milestone, dated, so you can see what has actually been built before releasing the next payment. For clients abroad this is the core of how the relationship works.

Do you take on every project you are asked about?

Capacity and programme are discussed at the enquiry stage. The written schedule should reflect the team, materials and sequencing available for that specific project rather than a generic promise.

How does the rainy season affect my project?

The rains run roughly June to October and they affect earthworks, foundations, concrete curing and external finishing. We sequence programmes so weather-sensitive work falls in the dry months where the start date allows, and we build the wet months into the programme rather than pretending they will not happen.

Do you work on projects for clients living abroad?

Regularly. A significant share of our residential work is for Gambians in the diaspora. Written scope, stage-based payments and dated photographic evidence are what make it work, and we also encourage clients to appoint someone locally who can visit the site independently of us.

The company

What does Shreeji Development Enterprise do?

We are a construction and development company in The Gambia with five divisions: building construction, land sales, borehole drilling, laterite stone supply and concrete block manufacturing. Because materials and water come from our own operations, our construction projects depend less on third-party supply than most.

How long have you been operating?

We have been building in The Gambia since 2010 — over 15 years — and have completed more than 40 projects across residential, commercial and hospitality work.

Can I see examples of your work?

Yes. Our projects section covers Bakadaji Hotel in Serekunda, Fajara Lux Twin Homes in Fajara and the Priority Leisure Group complex in Bijilo, with photographs of each. We can also arrange to show you completed work in person, which tells you more than any photograph.

Where are you based?

Our office is in Kanifing, Serrekunda, in the Kanifing Municipal Council area. Full address, opening hours, directions and a map are on the contact page.
